Adaptations vs. Variations

In the context of this blog, I tend to operate off these definitions.


An adaptation refers to a medium or setting different from the original. For example, a book adapted into a movie or set in the 1970s instead of 1800s England.


A variation keeps certain details the same as the original, such as the setting and primary cast of characters. It asks "what if this happened instead of that?".
